Loving husband and father.

A handyman who could fix his car, a friend's lawn mower or do anything on his own as well as a diligent hard worker, who always took extra shifts at work to provide for his family.

He was gentle, but strong, and although expressing emotions wasn't his strong suit, our love between family and friends are no less powerful.

We all feel pride for the many tall buildings that he helped construct in his life, blessed and loved for the times he would drive his family around to see the world, taking them anywhere in his car.

But no matter where we went as a family, as long as we were together, that's where home was.

We will miss him very much, and hope to embrace him in peace and love one day in heaven.

Sonja Schweter

Sonja Schweter

Listed in

February 6, 1992 - May 1, 2024

Sonja Tabea Schweter passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on May 1st, 2024 in Kitchener, Ontario at the age of 32 from complications of pneumonia.

She is survived by her parents Sabine and Christian, her siblings Sina (Brian), Jan (Paula) and Sarah (Juliano) and by Rebecca, Gracie, Joshua, Thomas and Benjamin who lovingly called their aunt “Tante Soni”.

Sonja was born in Germany and immigrated to Canada with her family in 2005.

Even after many years in Canada, Germany was still her beloved home, where many people she loved will miss her deeply.

Sonja loved all things Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Friends. Playing video and card games with her family and friends was one of her favorite things to do.

Despite struggling with her mental health for many years, Sonja achieved great things such as completing her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Trent University, and she was studying at Martin Luther University College in Kitchener to become a pastor.

Sonja loved baking, was a french fry enthusiast, and gave the best hugs. She will be missed deeply by her family and friends. Recognizing the difficulty to condense Sonja into a few short sentences, we want to end with a Bible verse that was given to Sonja when she was baptized that she held close to her heart, especially during difficult times.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
