The land for this cemetery was sold to the Wesleyan Methodist Church in 1847. The earliest recorded burial, however, was in 1830. The last recorded burial was in 1906. The monuments have been incorporated into a cairn in 1949 by a committee oganized by Simcoe Street United Church.Directions to Cemetery185 - 201 Bond Street in Oshawa. Exit the 401 at Simcoe Street. Drive north on Simcoe Street past King Street to Bond Street. Drive west on Bond past Centre Street. The cairn is on the south side of the road in a small park. The Pioneer Cemetery was originally located to the east of Oshawa Harbour on property once owned by Lyman Gifford, a former mayer of Oshawa. Many of the original settlers and their families were buried there, including Benjamin Wilson, the first settler in this area. IN 1975 the cemetery was transferred to city-owned land at Bonnie Brae Point. Unfortunately, when the move took place, Benjamin Wilson's tombstone disappeared and has not been recovered.Directions to CemeteryLot 5 Concession BF of the city of Oshawa, at the Port of Oshawa. The new location of the cemetery is at the corner of Birchcliffe and Kluane Streets. Exit Highway 401 at Simcoe Street. Drive south on Simcoe Street to Lakeview Park Avenue. Drive west through the park to Birchcliffe. Drive south on Birchcliffe to the top of the hill.
